How to Use the Print Options in Your Embroidery Software

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Once you’ve finalized a design, the Print option is a powerful tool for creating a physical copy. This printout serves as a valuable preview of your design and includes useful information for the production process.

This guide will walk you through customizing and printing your design worksheet.

Step 1: Access the Print Menu

You can open the print preview dialog in two ways:

  • Navigate to the File menu and select Print.
  • Click the Print icon on the top toolbar.

This will open the Print Preview dialog, showing you exactly what will be sent to the printer.

Step 2: Set Up Your Page and Printer

Before customizing the content, configure your basic page and printer settings.

  • Select Printer: If you have multiple printers, choose the desired one from the dropdown list. You can also use this menu to save the output as a JPEG image or PDF file for digital archiving.
  • Page Layout:
    • Change the orientation from Portrait to Landscape as needed.
    • The software’s goal is to print your design at its actual size (100% scale). This may cause the printout to span multiple pages.
    • Use the Autofit option to let the software automatically adjust the page orientation and layout to fit all components while keeping the scale at 100%.

💡 Useful Tip: Always double-check the scale percentage before printing, especially after making layout adjustments, to ensure your design prints at the intended size.

Step 3: Customize Printout Components

You have full control over what information appears on your printout. By default, all parts are selected. To remove an item, simply uncheck it from the list and watch the preview update in real-time.

Here is a breakdown of the available components:

  • Header: Displays design and color information at the top of the page.
  • Color Changes: A sequential list detailing each color change in the embroidery process.
  • Design Sequence Icons: A graphical representation of the design’s stitch-out sequence.
  • Orientation Sign: Shows the proper orientation of the design.
  • Company Name: Adds a customizable title to your printout.
  • Binder Space: Adds a margin and marks for accurate hole punching and filing.
  • Stitch Count: Provides an estimated stitch count for the design.
  • Start Point: A cross-hair symbol marking the design’s starting point.
  • 3D Preview: Displays a realistic rendering of the design with stitches. When this is active, you can also choose to Show Fabric behind the design.
  • Fill Areas: When checked, all design shapes are shown as solid. When unchecked, only the outline of the design is visible.

💡 Useful Tip: Printing with Fill Areas unchecked is a great way to create a placement template, making it easy to visualize the design’s final position on your fabric.

  • Hoop: Displays the embroidery hoop area on the printout.
  • Grid Lines: Adds a measurement grid over the hoop area for more accurate placement and sizing.

💡 Useful Tip: Including the Hoop and Grid Lines increases the total print area and may require more pages. If you want to fit your design on a single page at 100% scale, try disabling these two options first.

Step 4: Print Your Design

Once you are satisfied with your customized layout and components, click the Print button to send the job to your selected printer or save it as a file.
