How to Select Multiple Objects by Stitch Type in DRAWings PRO
Being able to select multiple objects based on their stitch type is a powerful time-saver, especially in complex designs. This allows you to apply changes like new styles, patterns, colors, or outlines to specific groups of objects efficiently.
Here are several ways to manage selections based on stitch type:
Method 1: Select All Objects of a Specific Stitch Type
This method is ideal when you want to select all objects of a particular stitch type in your design (e.g., all “Step Fill” objects).
- Select a Sample Object: Click on any single object in your design that has the stitch type you want to select (e.g., an object with a Step fill).
- Access Stitch Type Options: Locate the stitch type of the selected object displayed on the Properties Bar (e.g., “Step”).
- Right-Click on the Stitch Type: Right-click directly on the icon or text representing that stitch type on the Properties Bar.
- Add to Selection: From the drop-down menu that appears, choose the option “Add [Stitch Type Name] to selection” (e.g., “Add Step to selection”).
- All objects in your design with that specific stitch type will now be selected.
Method 2: Add Objects of Another Stitch Type to an Existing Selection
If you already have some objects selected and want to add all objects of another specific stitch type to that selection.
Option A: If the desired stitch type is visible on the Properties Bar (because one of the currently selected objects has that type):
- Ensure you have your initial objects selected.
- Locate the desired additional stitch type on the Properties Bar.
- Right-click on that stitch type.
- Choose “Add [Stitch Type Name] to selection” (e.g., if you want to add all Satin objects, click “Add Satin to selection”).
Option B: If the desired stitch type is NOT visible on the Properties Bar (or to choose from a list):
- With your initial objects selected, right-click on the icon representing the current selection’s properties (often near the fill or outline type display on the Properties Bar).
- From the context menu, choose “Add to selection”.
- A sub-menu or list will appear. Select the specific stitch type you want to add from this list.
Option C: Using the Fill or Outline Type Lists:
- Click the icon for the Fill type or Outline type on the Properties Bar, or expand the respective list.
- From the appearing menu/list of stitch types, right-click on the specific stitch type you want to add to your current selection.
- Choose “Add this type to Selection” (e.g., “Add Satin to selection”).
Method 3: Refining Your Selection – Deselecting Individual Objects
After selecting objects by stitch type, you may want to exclude a few.
- Hold the Ctrl key (Control key) on your keyboard.
- Click on the specific objects you wish to remove from the current selection. Each clicked object will be deselected while others remain selected.
Method 4: Removing Objects of a Specific Stitch Type from the Selection
This is useful if you’ve selected many objects (e.g., “Select All”) and want to quickly remove all objects of a certain stitch type.
- Ensure the objects you want to filter are selected (e.g., use Ctrl+A to Select All).
- Identify an object that has the stitch type you wish to remove from the selection.
- Right-click on the stitch type (e.g., “Satin”) on the Properties Bar that corresponds to the objects you want to deselect.
- From the appearing menu, choose the “Remove from selection” option (e.g., “Remove Satin from selection”). All objects of that type will be deselected.
Method 5: Keeping Only Specific Stitch Types by Deselecting Others
This approach allows you to start with a broad selection (like all objects) and then narrow it down by specifying which stitch types to remove, effectively keeping only the ones you don’t remove.
- Select All Objects: You can do this by pressing
Ctrl+Aor using the software’s “Select All” command. - Identify a Type to Keep (as a starting point): Right-click on the stitch type on the Properties Bar that represents one of the types you wish to keep selected.
- Choose Types to Deselect: From the context menu, navigate to the “Remove from Selection” sub-menu or option.
- From this sub-menu, select the stitch type(s) you want to deselect. All objects of the chosen type(s) will be removed from the current selection, leaving the others selected.
By using these methods, you can quickly and flexibly manage selections in even the most complex embroidery designs, making your editing process more efficient. You can then easily apply changes such as new styles, patterns, color adjustments, or adding outlines to all selected objects at once.
