The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/create-an-adorable-easter-fabric-basket\/\">easter egg design<\/a> which will be placed on the middle of the table runner, will be about 25 cm in width and 28 cm in height. We will choose the biggest hoop of my machine; even so,\u2026<br>even so, the design won\u2019t completely fit in the hoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will start with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-add-customize-and-edit-ellipse-shapes\/\">Ellipse<\/a> <\/strong>shape tool, so just click and drag to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-add-customize-and-edit-ellipse-shapes\/\">draw an ellipse<\/a>. Select the shape you&#8217;ve just made and go to <strong>Tools options <\/strong>bar and uncheck the. Set the <strong>Width <\/strong>to <strong>200 mm <\/strong>(<strong>7.9 inches<\/strong>) and the <strong>Height<\/strong> to <strong>280 mm <\/strong>(<strong>11 inches<\/strong>) and <strong>Center <\/strong>it into the hoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right-click on the shape and choose <strong>Convert to curves<\/strong> option, so that we can fully edit the shape later on. Switch to <strong>Edit nodes<\/strong> mode and choose two nodes in the middle of the ellipse. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-transform-designs-move-resize-rotate-skew\/\">Move<\/a> those nodes down by about <strong>4 cm<\/strong> (<strong>1.6 inches<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make the movement more precise you may enable the <strong>View <\/strong>of the <strong>Grid<\/strong> (View &gt; Grid &gt; Show). From <strong>Shape tools<\/strong>, select the <strong>Rectangle <\/strong>shape and draw a Rectangle on top of the egg shape. Make sure that <strong>proportional <\/strong>is disabled and set the <strong>Width<\/strong> to <strong>300 mm<\/strong> and the <strong>Height<\/strong> to <strong>100 mm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, <strong>center <\/strong>the rectangle to the hoop, select both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-insert-and-customize-ready-made-shapes\/\">shapes<\/a> and use the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-weld-trim-and-intersect\/\">Trim<\/a><\/strong> option from the <strong>Shaping <\/strong>tools. Delete the rectangle as we don\u2019t need it any more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These parts look separate from each other, but they are still one object so, right click and apply <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-combine-and-break-apart-tools\/\">Break apart<\/a> <\/strong>to separate them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add decoration elements on the design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choose some decoration elements from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-insert-ready-made-designs-from-the-clipart-library\/\">clipart library<\/a> and then use the <strong>Array <\/strong>type to make them fill the egg shape. From the <strong>Tools &gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-add-custom-designs-to-the-clipart-library\/\">Clipart<\/a> library &gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-insert-ready-made-designs-from-the-clipart-library\/\">Insert Clipart<\/a><\/strong> locate the item &#8220;<strong>Floral60<\/strong>&#8221; and click <strong>Insert<\/strong>. We can click and drag to define size and orientation, but a single left click places the item in the original size and orientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having <strong>Proportional<\/strong> enabled, set the <strong>height <\/strong>at about <strong>2.7 cm<\/strong>. Likewise, insert the &#8220;<strong>Floral Leaf33<\/strong>&#8221; and set it at about <strong>2.5 cm <\/strong>in height. For this one, we will <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-group-ungroup-design-parts-for-efficient-embroidery-layouts\/\">ungroup<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong>delete <\/strong>the small parts as they can&#8217;t be embroidered nicely at such small size. Once again, follow the same steps to insert &#8220;<strong>Floral Leaf14<\/strong>&#8221; and set its <strong>height<\/strong> at about <strong>2 cm<\/strong>. Also insert the &#8220;<strong>Floral48<\/strong>&#8221; with height at about 2 cm, the &#8220;<strong>Floral01<\/strong>&#8221; with height at about 2 cm and the &#8220;<strong>Floral02&#8243;<\/strong> with height at about 2.3 cm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the flowers we can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-stitch-flow-to-control-stitch-direction-and-quality\/\">stitch flow<\/a> to make them look more natural. For the petals, we can draw a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-stitch-flow-to-control-stitch-direction-and-quality\/\">divide<\/a> line and set a point direction for the middle part. We will do the same for the other flower. Place them nicely, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-transform-designs-move-resize-rotate-skew\/\">rotate<\/a> the butterfly slightly move those green parts and finally, the flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take your time to arrange the objects in any way you like and set colors for the elements. Once you are done with colors, <strong>select all<\/strong> the inserted elements and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-group-ungroup-design-parts-for-efficient-embroidery-layouts\/\">Group<\/a> <\/strong>them together for easier handling later on.<br>To apply the <strong>Array fill<\/strong>, select the group of elements together with the upper part of the egg, right-click and apply &#8220;<strong>Create fill from shapes<\/strong>&#8221; from the &#8220;Array&#8221; option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Edit the Array properties<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choose <strong>Circular<\/strong> placement in <strong>Fill<\/strong>, set the <strong>H.Spacing<\/strong> to &#8211; 3,0 mm and set the <strong>Start angle<\/strong> to 10 degrees. Take your time, experiment and adjust the array in any way that pleases you. Likewise, we shall apply <strong>Array fill<\/strong> at the lower part of the egg. Delete the grouped items that we used for the Array as we don\u2019t need them anymore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Select both parts of the egg and go to <strong>Outline<\/strong> properties. Set the <strong>stitches <\/strong>style to <strong>07<\/strong>, set the <strong>Offset <\/strong>to <strong>2,0<\/strong> mm, and finally set a matching color for the outline. Let&#8217;s add some text in between the egg parts start the <strong>Lettering<\/strong> tool and type &#8216;<strong>Happy<\/strong>&#8216;. Select a Font: <strong>xpg240<\/strong>, set the <strong>Font size<\/strong> at <strong>39<\/strong> and set <strong>Spacing <\/strong>to <strong>4mm <\/strong>so that the letters are nicely distributed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Set a <strong>color<\/strong> and go to <strong>Properties<\/strong> and select the <strong>Wide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-digitize-satin-stitches\/\">Satin<\/a><\/strong> style of <strong>Stitches<\/strong>. In the same way, start the <strong>Lettering<\/strong> tool and type &#8216;<strong>EASTER<\/strong>&#8216;, Select a Font <strong>xpg 233<\/strong>, set the size to <strong>58<\/strong>, set <strong>Spacing<\/strong> to <strong>2mm <\/strong>so that the letters are nicely distributed. Set another color for this part and apply the same color to the outline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to <strong>Outline <\/strong>properties and set the &#8220;<strong>Outline width<\/strong>&#8221; to <strong>1.2 <\/strong>mm. This will add a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-satin-serial\/\">Satin serial<\/a> <\/strong>outline around this lettering. Then go to <strong>Fill <\/strong>and set the type to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-step-fill-stitches-density-styles-underlay-and-gradient-blending\/\">Step<\/a><\/strong>. Now, set &#8211;<strong>450%<\/strong> on <strong>Gradient<\/strong>. You can make it look even better using the <strong>Stitch flow<\/strong> tool to make stitches flow horizontally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add an extra hoop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are done for the design so let&#8217;s have a look at the placing. This red color on top of the hoop area means that the design doesn\u2019t fit in this hoop. Instead of trying to make the design smaller to fit the hoop, we&#8217;ll show you how to add an extra hoop.<br>From the <strong>tool\u2019s toolbar<\/strong>, locate the \u2018<strong>Machine\/Hoop<\/strong>\u2019 icon and click to enter machine\/hoop mode. While on this mode, you may only affect the hoop. Drag this hoop to the lower part, so that the hoop gets this part of the design. Also add a new one using the plus button to cover the upper part of the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, select the position for the new hoop in relation to the previous one. Position this at the top and then click on the hoop to be added. To fit the green text part though, rotate the hoop at the bottom since its height can nicely fit the width of the text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Move it to get the green part inside. The red color is gone. This means that our design fits the hoops. Notice that there are 2 hoops listed now and you can click to select any of them and move it. The one that is highlighted blue is the selected one. The area where the two hoops overlap is highlighted in blue.<br>The line with the red handles defines how the design will be split.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may adjust the line by moving the nodes. Keep in mind that this line doesn\u2019t always have to be a straight line. You can place the mouse over any point on the line and double-click to add a node. Using this node you can split the design in a customized way. For this design though a straight line will do just fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Export the designs and make a printout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switch back to <strong>Selection mode<\/strong>. The design is ready, so if we export to the machine, 2 files will be exported. Likewise, if you switch to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bGe4_jFSs3c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slow redraw<\/a><\/strong> you need to select a hoop first, to see the embroidery part for the specific hoop.<br>When working with multiple hoops, the printout can work as a guide for the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make print out the design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before making any changes select the printer you will use. This is important so that the margins and settings are adjusted accordingly. Remove parts of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-the-print-options-in-your-embroidery-software\/\">print<\/a> that are not needed by clicking on the options at the right side of the print dialog. For this printout we mainly want the design scale to be 100%<br>Now, proceed with the printout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I suggest that you print the design on transparent paper. Transparent paper allows you to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-align-auto-size-and-distribute-tools\/\">align<\/a> the design easily, ensuring that the design is centered and correctly positioned. We printed it on transparent paper to help us see through the printout and make hooping easier. Align the signs at the center and on the edges of the drawn lines and carefully tape the pages together. Always make sure that the design has stayed perfectly aligned. Draw a center line. Place the taped printout on top of the fabric so that the center line of the printout aligns with the fabric&#8217;s center line. Try to center the printout vertically so that you have the same space left above and below the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secure the printout with tape. The arrow on the printout marks the direction of the hoop. You can write the direction on the fabric; that\u2019ll be useful when checking the hoop direction while embroidering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place a needle on the center of the cross line of the printout and into the fabric. Mark the spot where the needle was placed. Repeat the process for the other center of the cross line. Draw horizontal lines based on those marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spray an adhesive spray onto the stabilizer and place the fabric, smoothing out any wrinkles or bubbles. Make sure that you select the correct hoop for the first design. Using the template&#8217;s guidelines, hoop the fabric so that both lines align, for the design to be centered on the hoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may use masking tape to hold the excess fabric so that it does not interfere with the embroidery. Open the first design, set the bobbin and needle thread attach the hoop to the sewing machine and start embroidering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow through with all the colors until everything from the first hoop is embroidered. Open the second design and continue embroidering until the embroidery of the second hoop is concluded as well. When the embroidery is complete, remove the hoop from the sewing machine and unhoop the fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carefully remove the stabilizer from the back of the fabric. It&#8217;s time to hem the fabric&#8217;s edges. Mark <strong>2.5 cm from the edge<\/strong> of the fabric. Fold over the edge by 0.5 cm and press down with a seam roller or iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fold another <strong>1 cm<\/strong> to the mark you made and press down. Pin the hem, repeat this on the other side, sew along the edges and pin the two decorative strips to the runner fabric; the right side of the strips with the wrong side of the main fabric together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure that the same length remains from both edges. Sew the two pieces together along the edge. Lay the main runner fabric with the right side facing up. Fold the decoration fabric so the right side is also facing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Press the seam with a seam roller or iron.
