You will see a list of all the individual shapes in your design, listed in the order they will be embroidered. In a complex design, this list can be quite long.

Tip: Manually dragging and dropping each individual object in the Sequence Manager to group it with its matching color is possible, but it can be very time-consuming for designs with many parts. The following steps provide a much faster shortcut.

Step 3: Select All Objects of a Single Color

This is the key step to quickly gathering all parts of the same color.

Locate the Used Colors palette, which displays all the colors present in your design.

Choose a color you want to group together. Right-click on that color swatch in the palette.

From the context menu, select the option “Select by fill color”.

Observe your workspace and the Sequence Manager. All objects filled with that specific color will now be selected simultaneously.

Step 4: Join the Selected Objects in the Sequence

Now that all objects of one color are selected, you can consolidate them in the stitching sequence with a single command.

In the Sequence Manager, locate any one of the highlighted (selected) objects.

Right-click on that selected object.

From the context menu, choose the option “Join together”.

All the selected objects will instantly be moved in the sequence to be embroidered one after the other, starting from the position of the object you right-clicked on. All parts of that color will now stitch out consecutively.

Step 5: Repeat for All Remaining Colors

Follow the same procedure for every other color in your design.

Go back to the Used Colors palette.

Right-click on the next color and choose “Select by fill color”.

Go to the Sequence Manager, right-click on one of the newly selected parts, and choose “Join together”.

Continue this process until all colors have been sorted.

Tip: For a cleaner view in the Sequence Manager, you can use the “Group objects with the same color” icon, often located at the top of the docker. This will collapse all the sequential, same-colored objects into a single entry in the list, making it easier to see your final, optimized color sequence.

Conclusion

By following this procedure, you will have successfully reorganized your design. A file that may have started with dozens of color changes can be optimized to have only as many changes as there are colors in the design (e.g., a design with 8 colors will now have only 8 color changes). This streamlined workflow will save you significant time during the machine embroidery process.

This guide will walk you through a simple and effective method for manually reorganizing the color sequence of your embroidery design.

[333
post-2656","knowledge-base","type-knowledge-base","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categories-kb-how-to-training
["https://www.drawstitch.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/how-to-easily-sort-colors-and-mi-1024x576.jpg",1024,576,true
["GET
