To improve your workflow, you can change these default settings to match your preferences. Clicking on a color or style option while an object is selected will change that specific object only. Clicking on a color when <em>nothing<\/em> is selected tells the software you want to set a new default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Setting a New Default Fill Color<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start by making sure nothing is selected. You can do this by pressing the <code>ESC<\/code> key or clicking on an empty area of the design canvas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the color palette at the bottom of your screen, <strong>left-click<\/strong> on the color you want to use as your new default fill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>&#8220;Set default fill&#8221;<\/strong> dialog box will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In this dialog, you can:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the type of objects for which the default will be applied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decide if the change is temporary (<strong>&#8220;Just for this design&#8221;<\/strong>) or permanent (<strong>&#8220;Permanent choice for all new designs&#8221;<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm. Any new object you create will now automatically have your selected fill color.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Setting a New Default Outline Color and Width<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Again, ensure no objects are selected on the canvas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the color palette, <strong>right-click<\/strong> on the color you want to use as your new default outline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>&#8220;Set default outline&#8221;<\/strong> dialog box will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Here, you can set both the color and a default <strong>Width<\/strong> for the outline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Useful Tip:<\/strong> For embroidery, setting a default outline width can be very powerful. If you set the <strong>Width<\/strong> to be more than <code>1mm<\/code>, the software will automatically convert the outline to a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawstitch.com\/blog\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-satin-serial\/\">Satin Serial<\/a><\/strong> stitch type by default.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose whether to apply this setting just for the current design or permanently for all new projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>. New objects will now be created with your chosen outline color and width.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Setting &#8220;No Outline&#8221; as the Default<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you frequently create objects without outlines, you can set this as your default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure nothing is selected on the canvas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate the Outline color properties at the bottom of the screen and click the <strong>&#8216;X&#8217; icon<\/strong> (None).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>&#8220;Set default outline&#8221;<\/strong> dialog will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm the object types and whether this should be a permanent change or just for the current design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>. All newly created objects in the selected scope will now have no outline by default.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Setting &#8220;No Fill&#8221; as the Default (for Line Art)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is especially useful if you are creating line art designs and want objects to be transparent by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure nothing is selected on the canvas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate the Fill color properties at the bottom of the screen and click the <strong>&#8216;X&#8217; icon<\/strong> (None).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>&#8220;Set default fill&#8221;<\/strong> dialog will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose your desired settings for object type and scope (current design or permanent).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.
